Formula 1 sketches for CNN International feature by sonialeong
Formula 1 sketches for CNN International feature
For those of you who missed it, the piece I filmed with CNN is out online now! Check out the video and watch me sketch Manga storyboards of one of the biggest Formula 1 rivalries in history, ‘Prost vs Senna: The Battles of Suzuka’!…

Drawing cars is tough enough as it is, but drawing real cars in historical/documented crashes WHILST BEING FILMED (by CNN, no less) is INSANE level difficulty.

I will post up proper scans of the actual finished sketches once CNN return them to me.
Princess Mononoke sketch commission by sonialeong
Princess Mononoke sketch commission
I was actually going through my folders to edit the sketches I was commissioned to do last weekend, but then I stumbled across this, which was drawn last November and I totally forgot to put it up!

This was just one of my quick event-only £20 sketch commissions, and it's Mononoke :3 Done with Pilot eno pencil, then inked with Kuretake flexible fineliner and Pentel brush pen, but I can't remember the brand of markers I used for this, sorry! May have been Letraset flexmarkers?
Sorceress coloured markers by sonialeong
Sorceress coloured markers
This is Arafel Crescentia Eltares von und zu Aristarchus, the Crown Princess of Drachenheim, from 'A Brush With Magic', the first book in my series of illustrated fantasy light novels, 'The Chronicles of Ciel'. If you want to know more about this character or check out the book, please head to…

As I drew her as part of a tutorial for Chameleon markers, I also have the line art which you can download practise colouring with :)

The gradients were achieved with Chameleon pens ^^
Sorceress line art FREE FOR PRACTISING COLOURS by sonialeong

I wrote a marker tutorial for Chameleon Art Products and their special blending pens (, and I made these lines for using with it. So I'm happy for you to download the full sized file to practise colouring digitally or print it out and try colouring with markers, I don't mind.

For PERSONAL USE/PRACTISE ONLY, no selling or reselling derivatives
ALWAYS CREDIT ME for creating the lines (either as Sonia Leong - OR a dA icon/user link is fine), this is for your benefit as well, as my fans may think you're stealing otherwise

And if you want, let me see what you do with it!

Here is what I did:
Manga Mama and MORE on my PATREON account by sonialeong
Manga Mama and MORE on my PATREON account

This is a subscription service that lets you pledge as little as $1 a month to show your support for my art and creative work. It allows you access to Patron-only extras like exclusive WIP shots, tips/tricks so you can see my process and settings, extra photos of me and my work place, I’ll try to run streams etc.

For people who pledge $3 or more, there are additional rewards such as signed prints, and BESPOKE DIGITAL SKETCH COMMISSIONS after a few months - think of it like paying for a custom sketch in instalments!

My first stretch goal is to regularly produce Manga Mama, a 4 panel comic strip about motherhood (and being an artist at the same time).

I am intending to host the comic strip on Smackjeeves, so we all can enjoy it! But bookmark for now, it will redirect you accordingly!

Right now, I can only do around 2 pages a month, but if I receive a good amount of pledges, I can devote more time so there’s at least 1 page a week.

Then if I make more, I can spend more time on my other original series and works, such as FujoFujo!, The Chronicles Of Ciel, and Love Stuffing volume 2 and MORE.

And of course, when enough pages build up, I will get all of these things PRINTED! For you to OWN ❤

So please spread the word! I will get a nice Patron-only post up there this weekend so you can see the inner workings of how I draw my comic strips :)

Yes, it is. I finally got my first Manga-ish looking results lol...I had to use your "front face" guide to help me out, but I hope I will not need to rely on reference soon :) The shading tips and everything were very useful. I just stink at being able to translate what's in my mind to paper (or digital canvas)...and hair...I stink at hair XD

Hi Sonia.

I came to your drawing workshop and spoke with you at your stand at the Kitacon event. I have confidence in my drawing abilities but I still learned a lot of techniques thanks to you.

Not only are you a talented artist but I think you're a wonderful person as well. I do get nervous when talking to new people and in social situations but I felt relaxed talking to you. Meeting you and your workshops was definitely my highlight of the event.

I hope you had a good time too. I'll be sure to support you and your works in anyway that I can.

Have a good evening and a great rest of the week. =)
