Promoting one's work

Again, a cute little picture drawn for an interview, the question was asking about how I promote myself.

Obviously, I do various things online and send my feelers out that way, but I also make sure I'm available at many events throughout the UK and internationally, where possible. I think it's really important to get out there and meet fans face to face, and to meet colleagues, potential clients and publishers ^^

Promotion is where your success is made - I'm not the best artist in the world, I mean, I know I'm not sh*t, but there are tons of kids out there who can produce more skillful work than me. But that's not what being a professional, commercial artist is about.

30-40% of it is pure drawing skill. 20% is polish/finish. The rest is marketing, reputation, networking - treating your art like a business and acting professionally. It's no good being the best artist in the world if no one knows who you are or how to contact you. And you have to prioritise what the client wants, not what makes you happy.
